The last full measure of devotion
Camille Lepage was a French photojournalist who decided to shine a light on the glories and troubles of humans in multiple African countries. With her craft, she exalted communities and committed to exposing profound suffering that prospered with the world’s inattention.
“I can’t accept that people’s tragedies are silenced simply because no one can make money out of them. I decided to do it myself, and bring some light to them no matter what.” - Camille Lepage
On May 12, 2014, she and two local colleagues were killed while covering the ravages of the Central African Republic’s civil war.
History always owes a profound debt to journalists like Camille Lepage. Without their work, too much of vital human importance is lost.
A book of Camille’s work, published after her death, is titled with words she often spoke to those with whom she dwelt and photographed - “On est ensemble” (we are together).
