In the modern era, the first inklings of what would become the Paralympic Games took place in 1948 London with a wheelchair race for injured servicemen. The first Paralympics were held in Rome in 1960. Today, the Paralympics are a living monument to skill, courage, innovation, and sportsmanship.
Even more, they are a testament to the truth that we really could arrange things such that people with disabilities can be full participants in the life of their choosing.
